Бразилска парламентарна истрага о намештању утакмица и клађењу одобрила је коначни извештај

After nearly a year of operation, the Парламентарна анкетна комисија (ЦПИ) on the Manipulation of Sports Games and Betting has approved its final report marking the conclusion of the committee’s work.

Approved with a single opposing vote from Senator Girão, the report suggests enhancements to Brazilian legislation to make it more effective in combating match-fixing and fraud in the betting market.

“The current scenario of Brazilian football is in a delicate and concerning moment, where the integrity of the most popular sport on the planet is being continuously questioned,” states the document.

In May 2024, the English Football Association (FA) accused Paquetá of committing fouls during matches with his team, West Ham, with the sole objective of allowing people close to him, who were previously informed of his intentions, to manipulate the betting market.

The midfielder, who has played for Flamengo, Milan, and the Brazilian national team, and whose hearing began last week, denies the accusations.

With the approval of the report, members of the CPI have endorsed the legislative proposals of the rapporteur. Among the proposals is a constitutional amendment to require any citizen, including public officials, to respond to summonses from any parliamentary inquiry committee, and three bills to curb match fixing. The committee also recommends limiting proposition bets.

According to information released by the Senate News Agency, all documentation produced by the CPI will be shared with the Federal Police and the Public Ministry of the Union for further investigation. The information will also be sent to other institutions, such as the Civil House and the Ministries of Finance, Justice, Sports, and Health, for specific measures.
